St Andrews Cathedral: An Iconic Anglican Church in Singapore

Overview

St Andrews Cathedral, located in the heart of Singapore, serves as a prominent Anglican church and stands as a testament to the city's rich historical tapestry. Established through the vision of Sir Stamford Raffles, this magnificent structure was constructed with funding from Scottish merchants who honored St. Andrew, Scotland's Patron Saint. The church, designed in the Early Gothic architectural style, boasts a striking nave flanked by north and south aisles, with an impressive spire that reaches a height of 63 meters. Inside, visitors are captivated by its intricate stained glass windows, the magnificent Walker Pipe Organ, and the solemn ambiance of the North Transept Hall, which houses the Graham White Library. The cathedral, designated as a National Monument in 1973, features glorious artworks and mosaics, making it a must-visit for anyone exploring Singapore's cultural landmarks.

A serene location featuring impressive architecture. It’s truly remarkable to experience the vastness within such a compact area. The cathedral showcases architectural elements like pointed arches and rose windows. While the ambiance is peaceful, it does have numerous chairs for prayer, which can make it feel crowded at times. The landscape is beautiful, presenting a lovely view with lush grass and trees. The facade of this church is simply stunning.

A beautiful and perfect church; it was my first time visiting the cathedral alone. I prayed and explored both the interior and exterior of the cathedral. Access is easy, and I believe if your heart is in the right place, everything will align beautifully.

This charming church stands out in the city, looking like it came straight from a fairytale. While there isn’t much to explore in the church itself, a visit may only take around 15 minutes. Consider planning other activities in the area if you’re here for sightseeing.

This white-washed Anglican church in the center of Singapore is simply beautiful. The friendly security personnel welcome everyone and allow photos inside. It’s wonderful to see people from various nationalities coming together here. The sight of the temple against the backdrop of Singapore’s modern high-rises is particularly striking.

Saint Andrew's Cathedral is an Anglican cathedral located in Singapore, close to City Hall MRT station. I had the opportunity to attend a service here once, invited by a friend. It's a beautiful heritage church.
