I don't think many locals are familiar with this place. The reason it became a landmark is a mystery to everyone I've asked.

The French concession is a charming district filled with renovated historical buildings, along with numerous shops, restaurants, bars, and cafes. There’s also a big shopping mall nearby. It's a nice area to wander around. Although, I feel the style of the buildings is somewhat overly European (which is understandable given the name), and I tend to prefer other areas in Shanghai.

The locals we encountered didn’t know what the term French concession referred to, but this is still an amazing area to discover. The beautiful architecture blends traditional Chinese elements with European influences. There are also delicious food options and lovely parks.
