This is the best place for clam chowder and crab 🦀 in San Francisco. A local business owner mentioned that there is a strike, so no fresh crab available. During the lockdown, it feels like a ghost town.

The Cannery was established in 1907 as a canning plant for vegetables and fruits. The original owner was the California Fruit Company, which became Del Monte. It’s one of the few large areas that survived the San Francisco Earthquake. Del Monte operated here until 1937. Located right on the wharf, it was renovated in the late 1960s and is now a historic landmark featuring over 30 shops and restaurants.

It’s CASH ONLY!!! There are 2 ATMs inside. Decent food and excellent jalapeño poppers! It can be drafty because both the front and back doors are open, so be sure to wear a jacket.
