Visit Lombard Street: San Francisco's Iconic Winding Road

Overview

Lombard Street, one of San Francisco's most extraordinary attractions, is renowned for its steep inclines and captivating series of hairpin turns. This famous street, often celebrated for its unique design, features a distinctive one-block stretch adorned with eight sharp bends, making it a perfect spot for photographs and sightseeing. Built to navigate the challenging gradient of 27%, Lombard Street offers a picturesque journey through beautifully landscaped flower beds. While it captures the hearts of tourists, many are surprised to learn that it isn't the most crooked street in the city—that title belongs to Vermont Avenue. For an unforgettable experience, ride the Powell-Hyde cable car to soak in the stunning views from the top of this remarkable road.

This narrow and tricky street in the USA is quite unique. Europeans may not find it as impressive, but it remains an interesting spot. I think similar streets can be found in Quebec City or Montreal.

Such a beautiful street, but the walk to get there is pretty tough. I recommend taking a Waymo or a taxi instead.

A must-visit on foot, preferably in sunlight, to fully appreciate the beauty of this street.
