Explore Veletrzní Palác: A Modern Artistic Haven in Prague

Overview

Veletrzní Palác stands as a testament to modern architecture amid the historical backdrop of Prague. Built in the 1920s by architects Oldřich Tyl and Josef Fuchs, this unique structure features a minimalist design characterized by clean lines and abundant natural light. The palace is home to the National Gallery's extensive Czech national art collection, boasting over 2300 pieces across three floors. Following a devastating fire in 1970, the building was thoughtfully renovated rather than demolished, preserving its functional design while adapting it for modern use. Today, Veletrzní Palác is recognized not only for its remarkable architectural significance but also for its diverse exhibitions that encompass various art forms, including painting, sculpture, graphic design, and industrial art. Whether you're an art enthusiast or a lover of modern architecture, a visit to Veletrzní Palác is a must when in Prague.

The gallery was peaceful and displayed numerous works from Czech artists, alongside pieces from Picasso, Monet, and Van Gogh. There was a nice variety, and we spent around 2 hours exploring. The free cloakroom was handy, and there was plenty of seating. The entry fee for the main galleries was 250kc, which felt reasonable.
