Explore Paris's Iconic City Hall

Overview

Paris's City Hall, a magnificent structure steeped in history, serves as the hub of the city's municipal government. Unlike any other, this 17th-century building sits elegantly in a bustling square adorned with charming fountains and lampposts. Originally constructed for civic administration, the City Hall has witnessed the evolution of Paris through the ages. It stands out with its intricate façade that features numerous stone carvings symbolizing the city's rich heritage. While the interior is not accessible to the public year-round, it opens its doors during special events such as the Heritage Weekend in September. The square outside is vibrant with activities year-round, hosting art exhibitions, lively events, and seasonal attractions like a winter ice-skating rink and summer festivities. A visit to Paris’s City Hall promises a captivating blend of history, culture, and community engagement.

This is my second visit to City Hall for European Heritage days. I believe this might be my favorite building in the entire world! They are currently hosting an exhibition featuring various Parisian photographs, along with a light show in the grand ballroom. GORGEOUS!!!

A magnificent building. You must visit it. Since it is very close to Notre Dame de Paris, Le Châtelet, Le Centre Pompidou – each of them a must-sees – it would be a shame to miss it. The square in front is also filled with exciting attractions, not just for kids.

Such a delightful city hall adorned with Christmas decorations and the Paris 2024 Olympics sign. I visited twice to see it during the day and at night with the lights. They have a small ride for children and food carts. A great spot for photos.
