After many years, I finally revisited this location. Even with pre-booked tickets, we ended up waiting 5-10 minutes outside on a chilly Sunday morning - just a heads up for winter visitors! The space includes a cozy cafe and gift shop on the lower levels, with galleries upstairs. Each floor has its own unique vibe, but honestly, the artwork seemed a bit limited considering the ticket price. The no-photo policy was a total downer too. Nonetheless, it was a lovely way to spend a morning, and I'm pleased I checked it out again. Next time, I might skip the ticket and just enjoy a coffee downstairs! :)

Visiting the Neue Galerie in New York feels like stepping into a sanctuary of Austrian and German art and design. This small museum provides an intimate experience, featuring masterpieces from the early 20th century. Among the stunning pieces, one artwork leaves a lasting impression: Gustav Klimt's iconic portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer. This extraordinary painting is known for its vibrant colors and intricate gold leaf application. The backstory of the portrait is both fascinating and tragic. Stolen by the Nazis in 1907, it underwent a complex legal battle for decades before it rightfully returned to Adele’s heirs. Anyone with an interest in art and history must visit the Neue Galerie. It truly is a treasure in New York, and an emotional journey worth making.

This gallery is both beautiful and intimate. It's a breeze to explore and view the paintings without the hassle of crowds. The two cafes are perfect spots for enjoying tea and a sweet treat.

The entry fee is a bit on the high side for a small museum, but since the third floor was closed, they kindly offered discounted tickets. It’s worthwhile if you pair your visit with a meal at Cafe S and if you enjoy museums set in gilded-age mansions!

A stunning gallery! Here are a few tips: buy your tickets online in advance. We didn't and ended up waiting in a long line in the cold to get in. You’ll also wait to enter the restaurant. We opted for the second restaurant in the basement which had a shorter line - same menu, less ambiance. The food and service were good. I recommend the Bloomberg audio guide app to gain more insights into the art. Note: no photography is allowed in the galleries. The space can be tight. We visited on a Saturday; weekdays might be better for a visit.
