Welcome to Jean-Talon Market: Montreal’s Culinary Gem

Overview

Jean-Talon Market, located in Montreal's Little Italy, is one of the city's oldest and most beloved public markets. Originally opened in 1933 on what was once a lacrosse field, this vibrant farmer’s market is now home to a delightful array of stalls and vendors showcasing fresh produce, flowers, spices, cheeses, and baked goods. Throughout the summer, Jean-Talon Market transforms into a bustling hub of activity with up to 300 vendors showcasing the best of the countryside. Cars are banned from the market's streets during weekends, allowing visitors to leisurely wander through the open-air arcades and soak in the lively atmosphere. With its rich diversity and community-oriented vibe, Jean-Talon Market is a must-visit destination for both locals and tourists in search of authentic culinary experiences.

The market features a lively selection of fresh produce, fruits, vegetables, bread, and cheese, all radiating energy. As some vendors may only accept CAD cash, it's advisable to come prepared. We picked up fresh fruit and bread and enjoyed the market’s relaxed, welcoming vibe.

I was told to try the oysters at the market, and wow! They are the freshest oysters I have ever tasted! The entire market is very clean, with an excellent variety of products ranging from French food, tacos, Arabic cuisine, to fresh vegetables from local farmers and the best seafood suppliers in Quebec. You must visit the market to gain insight into Montreal's culture.

Always a friendly market with a diverse variety of vendors. We enjoy the local goat cheese vendor Fromage de la Ferme, the nearby spice shop, and the gelato with the unique coco-camerise berry flavor!
