It had been more than a decade since my last visit to the Insectarium. It was an enjoyable experience, but unfortunately, it was quite brief, wrapping up in about half an hour. The entrance gives you the feel of entering a cave, which is fun. The information about the insects is fascinating. Once inside, the room displaying pinned insects is intriguing, but there wasn't much beyond that. The final attraction is the butterfly room, where you can stroll among butterflies and different insects in their specific areas - that was definitely the highlight! I found the ants hauling food and traversing logs fascinating. I wish they had a larger ant farm behind glass to showcase the entire layout. This place has the potential to be a fantastic museum; however, it feels average at the moment. I hope they expand it in the future.
What a beautiful family-friendly outing to explore the charm and variety of bugs! The aviary with live butterflies is particularly special. Staff are available to answer questions and provide insights about the insects present. I visited 25 years ago, and while it's changed a lot since then, I have yet to discover another Insect Museum like it. It's truly enjoyable for children and adults alike.
If you find yourself in Montréal and haven’t yet visited, you absolutely must! Be sure that you enjoy watching bugs, insects, and butterflies. The exhibits are remarkably preserved, with tons of information to discover and ample sights to see and experiences to enjoy! The butterfly house was the highlight for me; I felt like I was in paradise.
This place offers a lovely opportunity to learn about a wide variety of insect species, and spending time with the free-flying butterflies was truly enjoyable. I found it fascinating to see so many different types, colors, and patterns, along with learning about their lives.
An experience you shouldn’t miss, regardless of age! One hour is more than enough to see everything without needing a break. The entry exhibit gets you moving, and I found the combination of live and pinned specimens truly captivating. The live butterfly, beetle, and centipede exhibit was entertaining, and the section dedicated to leafcutter ants was fantastic. Don’t overlook the glass area with chrysalis lines in the butterfly enclosure; you can witness new butterflies unfolding their wings!
