Montreal Biodome: A Journey Through Nature’s Ecosystems

Overview

The Montreal Biodome offers an immersive experience showcasing the diverse ecosystems of the Americas. Nestled in Montreal, this remarkable attraction features four distinct environments: the lush Tropical Forest, the seasonal Laurentian Maple Forest, the vibrant Gulf of St. Lawrence, and the icy realms of the Subpolar Regions. Originally built as a velodrome for the 1976 Olympic Games, the Biodome transformed into a nature exhibit that opened its doors to the public in 1992 after extensive renovations. Visitors can encounter a remarkable variety of flora and fauna, with over 4,500 animals representing 250 species, including lynxes in the Laurentian Forest and macaws in the Tropical domain. The Biodome is part of the Montreal Nature Museum and proudly holds accreditation from the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.

A fun experience for about an hour. We appreciate zoos and safaris, but found this one to be somewhat worn out. It must be quite challenging to ensure such a large venue is financially self-sufficient. We visited the day after a significant snowfall and enjoyed strolling around the serene, snowy Olympic park, which I highly recommend.

This place is absolutely amazing!!! It's fascinating how they create different environments beneath the old Olympic stadium. I was in awe while exploring every part of the venue. The animals can roam freely within their environments, which allows for a wonderful viewing experience as you walk through each ecosystem. The staff here are fantastic and very knowledgeable, explaining the various animal species and the environmental designs. If you're visiting Montreal, this attraction is a must-see. Truly incredible!!!!

Had a delightful visit with my teenager, who ended up enjoying it enough to put their phone down - success! The staff were exceptionally friendly and knowledgeable. The ticket price was reasonable, and the exhibits were clean and well-organized. Most of the traffic was manageable, with only a few instances where we had to wait to see the exhibits closely. The staff were happy to answer questions, and the three habitats featured a great variety of species. Most animals were out and about, although a couple were a bit shy. We explored every path in the exhibits and took time to snap some great photos. Overall, it took around 90 minutes. There are a few benches for those who need a rest. I'm definitely planning to return and recommend this to all ages.

Accessibility: Fully accessible with ramps and elevators. Some areas might get crowded. I completed the full tour of the Biodome on Nov 24, giving it a 4.5★ rating. I saw every available animal except the sloth. The Biodome was quite busy, as expected, but its design allows for ample time at each exhibit. Many staff members were present and eager to provide information or answer any questions. They were very engaging with children, enhancing their overall experience. There was no wait to enter, and the staff were very pleasant. The student discount was a nice bonus. However, the restrooms were crowded and could use more attention. It was a bit unclear where to park, resulting in a lengthy walk. I have visited the Biodome numerous times and would absolutely go back. Be prepared for children running around and possibly being a bit noisy.
