Olvera Street: A Journey into Los Angeles' Rich Heritage

Overview

Olvera Street, located in the heart of Los Angeles, is celebrated as the city's oldest street and a significant historical landmark. Originally known as Wine Street, this charming pedestrian mall winds through a plaza that served as the core of the early Spanish settlement. Visitors can admire the architectural splendor of several historical structures, including the oldest residence in LA, Avila Adobe, which dates back to 1818. With its picturesque tree-lined streets filled with artisan shops, restaurants offering delicious Mexican cuisine, and vibrant street performances, Olvera Street immerses you in the ambiance of old Mexico. Don’t miss the stunning ‘America Tropical’ mural by David Siqueiros at the America Tropical Interpretive Center or explore the Victorian Sepulveda House, adding to the cultural richness of this iconic location.

Nice historical area showcasing the oldest part of Los Angeles that is still standing, with plenty of little shops and food options while live performers sing and dance.

Beautiful plaza with 100+ year old trees. The little cabañas used by vendors were built for the 1980s Olympic games that took place in Los Angeles. The vendors have a large selection and variety of household items and artwork. Free restrooms available!!

Perfect place for families and tourists. Make a wish in the wishing well and please donate in the mule; every dollar helps.

Such a cute place. I went during the week, so it was quiet and easy to navigate. It also has a large public bathroom which was clean. The shops are cute, although most sell the same things at different prices, so if you really like something, shop around. You might find a better deal. The taquitos and other food were great.
