This museum is fascinating, filled with quirky items, and the building itself, which was an old bank, is impressive. After exploring the three floors of design exhibits, don't miss the basement where the old bank vaults are located. It's a fantastic spot for filming movie scenes. Unfortunately, the signage could use improvement, as it doesn't communicate well with visitors. Nonetheless, this place is worth a visit. I noticed it wasn't crowded, which is unfortunate, and they didn't have any postcards or posters. I hope they improve this in the future.
My visit to MUDE Lisbon was very disappointing. For €13, there was hardly anything to see. The museum lacked exhibitions, there was no terrace and no café, giving it an empty feel. It’s hard to see how they justify the entrance fee given the lack of offerings. The room with the bank vault is the only highlight, but you can visit that for free.
This museum was formerly a bank situated in the heart of Lisbon's financial district. Although it has been renovated, visitors can still access the old vaults with safes. You can see an exhibition on the building's transformation, showcasing the tools used in the process. The utilization of existing space is commendable. We visited when it was closed, so I cannot confirm the entry fee, but other sources mention €11. Checking the official website for more details is advisable. If you're a fan of heist films or interested in old banks, this could be worth your time.
This museum has been newly renovated and reopened, making it unique in Lisbon. Currently (August '24), it's devoid of exhibits, allowing visitors to freely explore its spaces. An entrance fee is still required. Starting September '24, the permanent collection and new exhibits will debut. The building is breathtaking, though many don’t seem to appreciate the refurbishment. It retains much of its historical essence, including the administrative offices and the stunning underground vault, while embracing a more industrial vibe. I highly recommend visiting, even without exhibits, as the history embedded in the space is enriching. Plus, you can enjoy a nearly empty rooftop for a serene view – something rare in Lisbon these days. Just go for it! 🏃🏻
I had a great time during my visit. It's currently under construction, but I can envision how fabulous it will be once completed. The staff were very helpful and provided us with plenty of information. Be sure to check out the second floor and the sixth floor, which offer fantastic 360-degree views of downtown Lisbon.
