A lovely place to explore, though slightly smaller compared to other castles. It's advisable to take a guided tour for in-depth historical insights, and to access the underground area showcasing part of the lake where boats used to enter the castle. Our guide, Mr. Pat, was very knowledgeable.
Dublin Castle is an essential destination year-round, but during the holiday season, it becomes a magical sight. The grounds are beautifully lit, with joyful carols and laughter in the air. The Christmas market within the castle walls offers a wonderful selection of handcrafted gifts and festive treats. The delightful scents of mulled wine and roasted chestnuts enhance the charming ambiance. Visitors can discover the State Apartments, which are elegantly decorated for Christmas, showcasing the castle's rich history. The highlight is the spectacular light display after dark, transforming the castle into a breathtaking spectacle. A visit during this time is unforgettable, filled with festive cheer and delightful memories.
An incredible castle, truly a must-see! I highly recommend the guided tour to see Dublin's original city walls and the stunning Gothic-style 'Chapel Royal'. The state apartments are also breathtaking, filled with exquisite upholstery and antique artwork. This location is rich with a thousand years of Irish history. As a visitor, you can easily lose track of time exploring this amazing site. A must-visit for those coming to Dublin for the first time!

Definitely worth a visit! I was unsure about what to expect from a castle in the heart of a city, but I loved it! We visited during Christmas, and it was beautifully decorated. The area around the castle is lovely as well. There's a part at the back of the gardens that usually features some interesting art exhibits.
Chose to visit the castle spontaneously and found no lines for tickets on a weekday morning. You can opt for either a self-guided tour, with phone audio available, or join a group tour. We went with the self-guided option. Overall, it was a pleasant experience for those interested in architecture, history, art, and politics.
