Overview

Sheikh Saeed Al Maktoum's House, located in the vibrant city of Dubai, is a remarkable museum that tells the story of the former ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Saeed Al Maktoum, who reigned from 1912 to 1958. Originally built in 1896, this architectural gem represents one of the few remaining traditional courtyard houses in Dubai and is recognized as a national monument. The house, designed in an exquisite Arabian style, features historical elements such as wind towers that were once essential for ventilation and cooling. Visitors can admire the intricately decorated rooms with high vaulted ceilings, arched doorways, and detailed carvings. The two-level structure includes former meeting rooms, living quarters, and charming balconies that overlook the picturesque Dubai Creek. Today, this beautifully restored location serves as a museum, housing a collection of historical artifacts, including rare photographs, paintings, and documents that chronicle the cultural and social evolution of Dubai.

A great place to explore the history of Dubai Creek, but there's not an abundance of history to discover. The museum is spacious, and the entrance fee is $50 per person. However, visitors must manually take a photo of the QR code on their ticket and show it at every exhibition hall, which could have been streamlined with a printed tag.

An excellent way to delve into the history of the UAE. The exhibitions are impeccably arranged, and the staff is very welcoming. The 50 dirhams covers many houses, each with its own theme. It is incredibly educational about pearls, marine life, and other aspects of the local culture. The stroll around the houses is very scenic.

Al Shindagha Museum is a collection of museums dedicated to the material culture and history of Dubai. The 22 pavilions are thematically divided, covering topics like history, traditional crafts, jewelry, poetry, food, nature, and the sea, among others. The exhibition is diverse and immersive, providing an impressive insight into Dubai’s remarkable development. Overall, it is a modern, well-maintained, and accessible venue for everyone, including families with babies and people with disabilities.

A must-see museum in Dubai! I suggest spending a whole day here since they provide numerous sections to explore. We arrived a bit late and missed the chance to join in their main activity, but we couldn't participate in other smaller activities like jewelry making. Overall, we had a fantastic time and were captivated by the evolution of Dubai. It was simply amazing! Thanks to the activity, we received a tote bag packed with goodies 😊.
