One of the few locations in Egypt where you can enjoy the impressive building and architecture without being disturbed. Tickets are quite affordable and can be purchased using your card. You must take off your shoes before entering the citadel, which offers amazing views of Cairo. The complex was very clean and well-maintained, also housing the Army, Navy, and Police museums. Definitely worth the visit.
A lovely place to take a walk around, featuring several points of interest (including non-Muslim attractions). The price is worth it. I did not enter the war or police museums, but the areas around them with statues, cannons, and views are definitely worth seeing. The views across the city are fantastic; you can even spot the pyramids on a cloudy day. The Muhammad Ali mosque has a fascinating mix of columns (Roman, Greek, and Egyptian influences) and a peaceful atmosphere. The palace is magnificent both inside and out, featuring painted ceilings, domes, and lighting. Remember to remove your shoes before entering both sites—I almost forgot at the mosque and felt quite out of place. The atmosphere within the citadel is serene, and there are refreshments available in a few spots if you've walked a bit to reach there—definitely a relief!
