Floralis Generica: A Marvel of Art and Nature in Buenos Aires

Overview

Floralis Generica, an extraordinary sculpture located in the heart of Buenos Aires, captures the essence of nature as it stands tall at 23 meters. Created by the talented artist Eduardo Catalano in 2002, this innovative installation is renowned for its ability to open its petals at sunrise and close them at sunset, symbolizing the beauty of life. Constructed with stainless steel and aluminum, it is a sight not to be missed. The sculpture is nestled within a beautifully landscaped park, spanning over four acres, providing visitors with winding paths that lead closer to the artwork. As you stroll through the park, take in the unique perspectives of this artistic flower. Although the mechanism to open and close the petals faced challenges in the past, it has been fully operational since June 2015. Entry to see this breathtaking piece of art is free, making it an accessible attraction for all. For the best experience, visit during the morning or evening to witness its mesmerizing transformation.

It's a nice spot for a walk, but it doesn't quite compare to the incredible street art found around Buenos Aires.

The sculpture reflects sunlight and clouds beautifully. The park is quite nice as well. It's definitely worth visiting, although we didn't spend much time there.

This moving piece is an artwork that also shifts. While it is an impressively constructed feature, the floralis generica has suffered some damage and needs repairs. One of the petals and some steel panels are missing and another is damaged. It must have been spectacular when it was well maintained and shining bright in the sun.

The park is stunning, with incredible artwork at its center. It's definitely worth visiting! No tickets are needed, and you can either walk, take a bus, or an Uber.

This park is pleasant and well-kept, with no major excitement. There’s ample open space and lush grass for children to enjoy. The metallic flower that opens and closes is interesting, if not thrilling. The nearby areas have additional parks, and there might be street fairs for arts and crafts depending on the day.
