Congressional Plaza & Palace - A Gem of Buenos Aires

Overview

The Congressional Plaza & Palace, a magnificent landmark in Buenos Aires, is known for its striking Greco-Roman architectural style reminiscent of the iconic Capitol building in Washington, D.C. Constructed in the early 20th century by renowned Italian architect Vittorio Meano and completed by his Argentine counterpart Julio Dormal, this notable structure serves as a symbol of national pride and historic significance. Visitors are greeted by the impressive central dome and the intricate details adorning the facade, while the ornate interiors showcase a blend of Spanish wood elements, German tile, and French marble. The layout features a horseshoe-shaped Congress chamber and the evocative Pink Room, where pivotal discussions on women's voting rights took place. Don't miss the Congressional Plaza, designed by French urban planner Charles Thays, highlighted by the stunning Dos Congresos fountain and captivating statues. Tours are offered in both Spanish and English for those looking to delve into the rich history and architectural beauty of this iconic site.

The tour of the Congreso de la Nación Argentina was an incredible experience! The building is a stunning architectural and historical gem, and the guided tour made it even more remarkable. Our guide was knowledgeable and passionate about sharing the significance of the Congress. A helpful tip: you don’t need to stress too much about reservations. While booking ahead is advisable, there are often last-minute spots available if you approach the Congress directly, so it can be worth a shot even without a reservation. The tour is well-organized and offers a captivating look at one of Argentina's most iconic landmarks. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Buenos Aires!

WOW - This is an extremely impressive square. Unfortunately, there was a very loud political event happening, which was quite overwhelming. The square tells a great story of the lost grandeur of a once very wealthy country, often referred to as the 'Land of the Silver', also known as Argentina.
