On our first full day in Budapest, we went to the thermal baths after hearing that it's a “must do” in the city. Arriving early after it opened, we were surprised by the crowds. We didn’t buy tickets in advance, but we easily got in with no line. We opted for a private changing room, which, although not the cleanest environment, was worth it. However, be prepared if you’re tall and large as it’s quite small. The bath area offers numerous options for both indoor and outdoor bathing. We chose not to pay for private spa areas and found that we didn’t need to. After about three hours, the place got quite crowded, prompting us to leave. Overall, we felt it was worth visiting one of Budapest's iconic spots. Remember to bring everything you need, as prices for amenities on-site are steep. Also, a bathing cap isn’t required unless you’re using the lap pool.
We had heard a lot about thermal baths in Budapest, so we decided to visit Szechenyi Baths. We arrived around 6 PM and got our tickets quite quickly. There are 18 hot spring water pools and 10 sauna/steam cabins. The indoor pools were crowded, so we enjoyed the outdoor pool where there was enough space to relax. Bringing your own towel is better because renting one costs 6 euros. A swimming cap is needed for the large lap pool, and other swimwear and bathrobes are available for rent. It would have been ideal if some indoor pools were reserved for couples.
As others have highlighted, this is a bucket list experience to try at least once for its history. Although it can be overcrowded, it is a necessary visit to this magnificent bathhouse. You can buy tickets online and present your QR code at the ticket window to receive a bracelet for entry and lockers. It's advisable to bring your own towels, robes, slippers, and suits. A swim cap is mandatory if you wish to swim laps in the large rectangular pool.
An amazing experience! The architecture is beautiful, highly organized, and good value for the price. The outdoor pools are fantastic and well-heated, even for winter. The different types of saunas are fantastic, offering various medicinal properties. We enjoyed our time thoroughly. It’s a great place to spend a relaxing day.
An unforgettable experience! The Széchenyi Thermal Bath is a must-visit in Budapest. The stunning architecture and the warm thermal waters provide the ideal setting for relaxation. Whether you’re soaking in the outdoor pools or exploring the many indoor baths, the atmosphere is rejuvenating and unique. The thermal waters feel incredible, especially on cooler days, and the setting has a timeless charm that makes you feel connected to history. It’s well-organized with ample space to unwind, and enjoying the baths under the open sky adds to its beauty. Don’t miss this experience if you’re in Budapest—it perfectly combines relaxation, culture, and history!
