Expo Picasso: A Journey Through Modern Art in Bruges

Overview

Located in the historic Oud Sint-Jan building, Expo Picasso offers art enthusiasts an exceptional collection of over 300 original artworks by Pablo Picasso alongside other renowned artists. This permanent exhibition chronicles the transformation of modern art, showcasing Picasso's journey from his impressionist beginnings in 1874 to the iconic pieces created later in his life. The diverse collection includes masterpieces from notable artists like Degas, Monet, and Matisse, and spans various mediums such as paintings, engravings, and ceramics. A standout feature of the museum is a unique documentary film crafted by Belgian filmmaker Paul Haesaerts in 1979, exploring Picasso’s artistic evolution. With 100 artworks by Picasso alone, including rare engravings and illustrations, Expo Picasso is a must-visit destination for anyone passionate about art.

If you find yourself in Bruges and have a few hours free, this exhibition is essential! We spent a couple of hours exploring the various rooms and observing the displays. While you could rush through it, you'd miss out on many aspects of the experience. The Body Worlds exhibition is intriguing and presents the human body in an unusual way. We took our teenage children along, and they were really impressed and still discuss the visit. This exhibition is available only until early March 2025 and is conveniently located in the heart of Bruges.

An amazing exhibition showcasing years of work with everything composed of actual deceased human bodies. You can discover a lot about your body, whether you are well-acquainted with the topic or not. It’s a delightful activity in the center of Bruges.

I had seen some of the artwork online and on television, so when we were in Bruges and discovered the exhibition was happening, I just had to visit. It was amazing and captivating to view the human body in this manner. Definitely worth the admission price.

The museum allowed a naturist group to view the exhibition 'Body Worlds.’ I sincerely appreciate that! I had a great time, even though the temperature was a bit too chilly.

We managed to read about 90% of the information during the tour, which took us slightly less than 2 hours. This truly is an art form! We purchased our tickets online beforehand. There is parking nearby for about 2 euros per hour.
