Explore the Pergamon Museum in Berlin

Overview

The Pergamon Museum, an architectural marvel in Berlin, was originally established to showcase artifacts unearthed during the Berlin Museum excavations. Since its inception, it has evolved into a powerhouse of culture, housing three distinct museums: The Collection of Classical Antiquities, the Museum of Islamic Art, and the Museum of the Ancient Near East. Visitors are captivated by reconstructed masterpieces such as the Market Gate of Miletus, the Ishtar Gate, and the Pergamon Altar. Additionally, the museum boasts a Numismatic Collection featuring approximately 50,000 coins. Despite ongoing renovations since 2008—part of the larger Museum Island Master Plan—the Pergamon Museum continues to welcome guests, offering free admission to those aged 18 and under. Discover the rich tapestry of history and art that awaits you at this exceptional institution.

You can easily spend over two hours here if you're interested. The museum has an enormous collection, definitely one of the largest. The audio guide is excellently designed. The collections from Mesopotamia, Babylon, and Islamic history are stunning. Tickets are 12 euros if bought directly at the museum. It's recommended to book online in advance.

It’s a nice place, not too big but just the right size to enjoy. The staff is very friendly and the access for people with disabilities is excellent. Be sure to leave your bags in lockers, which require a euro or a two-euro coin that you’ll get back after retrieving your items. The atmosphere is bright and airy, with great views of the life-size exhibits. It’s worth a visit, though it isn’t free.

This museum is a must-visit when in Berlin. The collection of historical antiques is immense. The main attraction is the Ishtar gate, which is both beautiful and massive. The Roman market facade is also large and well-preserved. The audio guide is helpful for learning about the artifacts. Highly recommended!

This museum is one of the most fascinating I've ever visited. I would definitely recommend it to anyone interested in history. You can learn so much and admire incredible beauty. We spent about three hours exploring without rushing. TIP: Bring an A4 size bag for water or other items. There is a coat check and lockers for larger bags, which cost 1-2 euros to use, refundable after your visit. Enjoy!

Don't miss this opportunity to explore the fascinating history of ancient civilizations! It can be enjoyable for both kids and teenagers. Unfortunately, parts of the museum are undergoing reconstruction, and I missed some key exhibits. I had to later check the missing sections through a virtual tour video.
