Overview
Situated conveniently on Tiananmen Square and facing the Great Hall of the People, the National Museum of China is a treasure trove of artifacts and exhibits narrating the rich tapestry of Chinese history and culture. Originally constructed in the 1950s to commemorate the founding of the People’s Republic of China, this architectural marvel has been renovated extensively, reopening its doors in 2011. With 28 exhibition halls across five levels, the museum covers a vast 200,000 square meters and showcases two main permanent exhibitions: 'The Road of Rejuvenation' and 'History of Ancient China.' Visitors can marvel at a diverse range of antiquities, including the ancient bronzeware Simuwu Ding and jade burial suits from the Han Dynasty, alongside modern historical artifacts like Mao's cap and an Olympic gold medal. The museum stands as a significant cultural institution, reflecting the evolution of Chinese civilization through its extensive collections of art, artifacts, and historic items.
