Experience the Serene Beauty of Houhai Lake in Beijing

Overview

Houhai Lake, nestled in the heart of Beijing, is a picturesque destination that promises relaxation and adventure. Known as the 'Back Lakes,' this tranquil spot consists of three interconnected lakes: the Western Lake (Xihai), Front Sea (Qianhai), and the central lake, Houhai, the largest of the trio. The surrounding neighborhood offers a delightful blend of local culture, historic landmarks, and lively entertainment options. Visitors can enjoy leisurely walks along the scenic shores, with paths that invite you to explore the vibrant hutongs filled with eclectic bars, cafes, and eateries. In the winter, the lakes transform into a hub for ice skating, while summer brings the charm of pleasure boating. Key attractions nearby include the iconic Stone Bridge, the historic Drum Tower, and the elegant Prince Gong’s Mansion. Whether you're seeking a peaceful stroll or an exciting nightlife experience, Houhai Lake in Beijing is the perfect destination.

A pleasant park to wander around. We observed many older people enjoying chess, fishing, and even swimming! You can rent a pedal boat for 180 RMB per hour, accommodating four people.

This is one of the top spots for tourists to grab a drink. There are numerous bars to choose from with a wide variety of music, so you can select the one that suits your taste. The bar is right by the lake, making it a lovely option for a stroll, especially in the evening as the sun sets. There are also some food streets nearby, but you can find better food options elsewhere.

The nightlife and bar scene in Beijing. There are plenty of food options available as well. You can visit here at night after exploring the Forbidden City and Jingshan Park. It’s definitely worth a stop to take a look!
