Casa Milà: The Iconic Architectural Marvel of Barcelona

Overview

Perched on the bustling Passeig de Gràcia, Casa Milà, famously referred to as La Pedrera, is a remarkable apartment building created by the legendary architect Antoni Gaudí between 1906 and 1912. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this stunning structure serves as a testament to Gaudí's innovative genius, with its organic forms and absence of straight lines. Commissioned by Pedro Milà I Camps, Casa Milà is an extraordinary engineering feat, featuring a self-supporting façade that allows for an abundance of natural light to permeate through its unique courtyards. Covering over 1000m², the building hosts nine levels, including a basement, ground floor, mezzanine, and upper floors topped with an attic showcasing Gaudí's distinctive design. Visitors can marvel at the fantastical rooftop chimneys, embellished with mosaics that evoke a sense of magic and wonder. Known locally as 'the quarry,' due to its stone façade and irregular shapes, Casa Milà continues to captivate art and architecture enthusiasts from around the globe.

This is one of the most uniquely built and designed buildings we have ever visited. It's fabulously designed and incredibly beautiful! Initially, I wasn't sure what to expect when approaching from outside, but I am very pleased to say that once we went inside, I was amazed! The Rooftop design is truly unique. I definitely recommend making this one of your stops when you are in Barcelona.

This building is stunning! We did an audio tour, which was perfect as we could linger where we wanted or move more quickly. The tour was not too long, and we ended up on the roof just as the sun was setting. The views were breathtaking, and the sculptures on the roof were fascinating! I would love to go back again.

One of Antoni Gaudí's most iconic works in Barcelona. Its unique, undulating stone facade and innovative design elements make it a must-see. The building is a UNESCO World Heritage site and offers visitors a chance to explore its striking architecture, including the rooftop with surreal chimneys and panoramic views of the city.

Situated at Pg. de Gracia, 92, L’Eixample, 08008 Barcelona, Spain 🇪🇸 This building is another masterpiece designed by Antoni Gaudí. It’s a very unique and impressive piece of architecture. Standing outside gives you little indication of the wonders inside. I especially loved the rooftop; it was fantastic. It feels underrated, as people don’t realize how exceptional it is. The building was commissioned in 1906 by Pere Milà and his wife and was controversial due to its undulating stone facade and twisting wrought iron balconies. It was listed on the UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1984. - Guided tours of La Pedrera at night cost 39€. - Self-guided tours with an audio guide cost 29€. - Premium tours, providing access to exclusive spaces and personalized guided tours for small groups of 6, cost 120€. I personally did the self-guided tour, which I enjoyed as I could go at my own pace. The audio was informative, interesting, and easy to follow. I would definitely recommend a visit. Thumbs Up!!! 👍👍👍

A cool spot with great views of the city. The tickets are somewhat pricey, but it’s worth the experience once. A majority of the building houses office spaces, so don’t expect to see the entire structure. You will only have access to the top 2 floors and the roof.
