Wang Lang (Siriraj) Pier: A Cultural and Culinary Delight

Overview

Wang Lang (Siriraj) Pier is a lively destination located on the Khlong Bangkok Noi Canal's southern edge. This popular pier serves as a gateway to Tha Chang and Tha Phrachan, making it a key transit point for the Chao Phraya Express Boat to the northern suburbs. Visitors will find an array of second-hand treasures and authentic Thai dishes right at the foot of the pier, as the surrounding market spans approximately 300 meters to Phran Nok. Notable food offerings include Wang Lang Bakery, Prasert Saimai's delicious desserts wrapped in roti, and Rod Dee Ded for flavorful pork noodles. Market enthusiasts can explore the Sahm Yawt Market and the Pahurat Indian Market, where Indian cuisine and vibrant spices attract visitors. The Wang Lang Market is ideal for finding affordable clothing and well-known brand logos. Nearby attractions include the Siriraj Hospital and Medical Museum, the largest medical facility in Thailand, and the Patravadi Theatre, offering traditional Thai performances. The Supatra River House, a historical restaurant with stunning river views, once belonged to a prominent advocate for women's rights. Additionally, the iconic Wat Rakhang Khositaram and the National Museum are short distances from the pier, enriching the experience further.

Wang Lang market is a great spot for trying inexpensive local snacks during the day. Just a short ferry ride from the Grand Palace (around 3 baht one-way), it’s a compact street bustling with both clothing and food stalls. The atmosphere is authentically local with few tourists around. I would definitely return here for more culinary delights!

Prannok pier is conveniently situated right next to Wanglang pier. You can catch a ferry to cross the river or hop on an express boat to various locations along the Chao Phraya river. Adjacent to the pier is a large open-air local market offering a wide range of items including food, snacks, and various goods at very reasonable prices.

It can get a bit crowded at times. The market beside the pier features a variety of local foods and drinks to purchase. There’s also a touchscreen vending machine for drinks and a claw machine, which is quite fun!

After a full day of exploring the city, enjoying a nice dinner while watching the Chao Phraya sunset is breathtaking. There are plenty of restaurants and cafes available, and there’s even a halal option here :)

Taking this ferry to cross the Chao Phraya river from Prannok Pier to Tha Chang is a very economical and interesting experience. If you opt for a Grab taxi, the traffic can be busy. It is near a government hospital, so traveling by boat is a great option with beautiful views and less hassle.
