Tha Phrachan Pier: A Cultural Gem in Bangkok

Overview

Tha Phrachan Pier, known as Moon Pier, is nestled on Rattanakosin Island and serves as a bustling crossroads for locals and tourists alike. This historic pier is a key transit point for crossing the Chao Phraya River between Thonburi and Mahanakhorn. The lively surroundings are filled with a maze of market-style stalls offering a variety of goods, from books and music to traditional local snacks like roti and roasted duck. The vibrant cuisine is complemented by small eateries serving authentic local dishes, perfect for a casual meal. Notably, the area maintains a cultural touch with Monk's Lane, where you can find items related to Buddha, and various shops offering unique items and even fortune-telling services. With its proximity to Thammasart and Silpakorn Universities, Tha Phrachan Pier retains a rich local flavor that transports visitors to the heart of authentic Bangkok life.

The map indicates a boat to Thon Buri Railway Station Pier, but I only found boats heading to Tha Wang Lang. No problem, just a 500m walk needed. The fare is 4.5 baht.

They offer a good, cheap, and reliable service. You can find three of Bangkok's top markets just across the river.
