The museum is compact but fascinating for archaeology enthusiasts. I appreciated the scenic views from the windows overlooking the canals and the organized display of the collections, although it was somewhat chaotic at times - I pondered if we had seen certain exhibits before. I recommend visiting, especially if you possess a Museum Card, as entry is free with it. I also liked the brochures featuring questions and activities for kids to help them remember what they experienced :)

I was rather unhappy with my visit. There were many replicas, and the flow was quite chaotic (the historical timeline was not consistent). I expected to see more actual archaeological finds from today's Dutch climate...

My visit to the Allard Pierson Museum was quite disappointing. I came specifically for the Martin Monnickendam exhibition, which turned out to be unexpectedly small with just a few paintings. The setup felt unprofessional, as the artwork was poorly positioned in unsuitable areas like the hallway beside the cafeteria. The admission fee of €14.50 was excessive for what was merely a 20-minute experience.

Fantastic museum! I specifically visited to see the Humboldt display, which was very impressive even after reading about it.

The Eastern Roman empire was only called 'Byzantium' in modern times. This empire maintained its continuity until the fall of Constantinople in 1453, while the description appeared to imply that the Arabs conquered it in the 7th century. This framing suggests that the Holy Roman Empire succeeded the Western Roman empire, despite no continuity existing; the only Roman empire continued after the fall of the Western part (476), in Constantinople until 1453. A thousand years of history that the West seems to willfully obscure. Other than that, it is a good museum.
